Outdoor stairlift in Luxembourg: safe access to your entrance and garden

Entrance, garden, terrace or garage: learn how a made-to-measure outdoor stairlift withstands the weather and preserves your independence.

By MPG Sàrl

Outdoor steps can become a real barrier when they separate the home from the street, garden, terrace or garage. An outdoor stairlift can preserve these everyday routes without rebuilding the entire entrance or giving up access to part of the property.

Every house and staircase in Luxembourg is different. The right solution must therefore consider the route of the stairs, the available space, exposure to the weather and the habits of the person who will use the lift.

When is an outdoor stairlift useful?

An outdoor stairlift may be appropriate when steps lead to:

the front door from the pavement or driveway;

a garden or terrace on another level;

a garage, courtyard or side entrance;

a cellar reached by an external staircase.

The user travels seated along a rail fitted to the staircase. Other members of the household can continue using the steps. Feasibility still depends on the staircase width, bends, landings and the space available at the top and bottom.

How is it different from an indoor model?

The operating principle is similar, but outdoor equipment must be designed for rain, moisture, changing temperatures and UV exposure. Essential components are protected against water or corrosion, while a cover protects the seat when the lift is not in use.

Weather-resistant equipment still needs careful use. Replace the cover after each journey and keep the rail, start area and landing clear, especially when there are leaves, snow or ice.

Otolift Two: a made-to-measure outdoor solution

MPG currently offers the Otolift Two for outdoor installations. Its rail is manufactured to match the actual staircase. It can therefore follow a straight or curved route when technical feasibility is confirmed during the home survey.

Depending on the available space, the rail can be planned to preserve as much walking room and entrance access as possible. The seat folds away when it is not in use, reducing its footprint.

The final choice depends on more than the shape of the stairs. The technician also checks:

the safest and most practical place to get on and off;

the remaining passage for other stair users;

doors, landings and surrounding obstacles;

weather exposure and the lift's parking position;

the user's mobility requirements.

What happens during the project?

1. A free home visit

An MPG technician visits your home to understand how the access is used and inspect the staircase. This confirms whether an outdoor stairlift is suitable or whether another accessibility solution would be more appropriate.

2. Measurement and proposal

The staircase is measured to define the rail route, the start and finish areas and the seat configuration. You then receive a detailed quotation, free of charge and without obligation.

3. Manufacture and installation

Once approved, the rail is prepared to measure. The MPG team installs the equipment, completes the adjustments and checks its operation in the real environment.

4. Handover

Before leaving, we explain the controls, parking position, charging and use of the protective cover. The user and their family should feel comfortable operating the lift from the first day.

What maintenance does it need?

An outdoor stairlift should remain clean and ready to use despite its exposure. A few simple habits help:

replace the cover when the seat is not being used;

remove leaves and dirt from the route;

do not use the lift when the rail or landings are covered in snow or ice;

leave the seat at its designated charging position;

arrange regular professional checks.

MPG offers annual maintenance and technical support to look after the installation over time.

Is financial support available in Luxembourg?

Depending on the individual's circumstances and the decision made by the relevant authorities, an outdoor stairlift may qualify for support through Luxembourg's Long-Term Care Insurance. Support is not automatic and depends on the assessment of the person's needs and their individual case.

If you intend to apply, seek information before ordering or installing equipment. MPG can explain the process and prepare the necessary technical information. Read our guide to Long-Term Care Insurance.

Frequently asked questions

Can an outdoor stairlift withstand rain?
Outdoor models have essential components protected against water or corrosion. The protective cover should be replaced whenever the lift is not in use.

Can a curved outdoor staircase be fitted?
Yes. A made-to-measure system can follow many straight or curved layouts. A technical home survey is still required to confirm feasibility.

Can everyone else continue using the stairs?
The seat folds away, and the rail route is planned to preserve as much passage as the staircase configuration allows.

Is the MPG home visit free?
Yes. The home visit and quotation are free and without obligation.
