A stairlift works quietly in the background, sometimes several times every day. Like any motorised system, it should be checked regularly so that it continues to operate smoothly and reliably.
MPG generally recommends an annual service. The right interval may vary according to the model, frequency of use and installation environment. A service visit is more than a quick clean: the technician checks the complete system and carries out a full test run.
Why arrange regular servicing?
A service can identify wear, an adjustment that needs attention or declining battery performance before it disrupts everyday use. It also helps ensure that the lift travels smoothly, the seat remains stable and the safety systems respond correctly.
Preventive maintenance does not mean that something is already wrong. Its purpose is to inspect the installation while it is operating normally.
What does an MPG technician check?
Rail and fixings
The technician examines the full length of the rail, its fixing points and the start and end positions. The route must remain clear, stable and correctly aligned with the staircase.
Seat and folding components
The seat, armrests, footrest and swivel mechanism are tested. The technician also checks the seat belt and locking mechanism where fitted.

Controls and safety sensors
The controls on the lift and the remote controls are tested. Obstacle sensors, stops and other safety features are checked to confirm that the stairlift responds correctly.
Batteries and charging
The battery allows the stairlift to continue operating during a short power cut. The technician checks its condition, charging points and power supply. Unusual speed or inconsistent charging may indicate that an inspection is required.
Complete operating test
The visit ends with one or more test journeys. The technician listens to the system, checks starting and stopping, and confirms that movement remains smooth throughout the route.
Simple care between services
Keep the rail and staircase clear.
Remove dust with a soft, dry cloth.
Leave the stairlift parked at a charging point.
Do not apply oil, grease or household cleaner to the rail unless instructed by a technician.
Report any new noise, irregular movement or error message promptly.
These precautions do not replace a technical service. They simply support reliable everyday operation.
Signs that require attention
Contact MPG if you notice:
unusual noise or vibration;
slower starting or unexpected stops;
movement that is less smooth than before;
a seat, armrest or footrest that is difficult to fold;
inconsistent charging or an error signal;
a visibly damaged component.
Do not force the mechanism. Ask our team for advice before using the lift again.

How often should a stairlift be serviced?
For a privately installed stairlift in normal use, an annual inspection is generally a sensible interval. Intensive use, an outdoor installation or particular technical characteristics may require a different schedule. The manufacturer's instructions and the conditions of the individual installation take priority.
Requirements may also differ for platform lifts, equipment installed in a publicly accessible building or other types of lifting equipment. MPG will advise you on the appropriate schedule for your installation.
Warranty and maintenance have different roles
A warranty covers the components and circumstances defined in its terms. Servicing is used to inspect, adjust and monitor the installation over time. A warranty therefore does not replace preventive maintenance.
MPG offers maintenance contracts for regular follow-up. Our technicians work throughout Luxembourg and remain available to help after installation. You can also explore our installations in Luxembourg.
Frequently asked questions
Can I clean the rail myself?
Yes, using a soft, dry cloth. Do not use lubricant or aggressive cleaning products without guidance from a technician.
Does a stairlift need servicing if it is working normally?
Yes. Preventive servicing is intended to inspect components before wear begins to affect operation.

Is annual maintenance mandatory?
This depends on the type of equipment, how and where it is used, and the applicable requirements. For a private stairlift, follow the manufacturer's manual and your contract conditions. MPG can confirm the appropriate schedule for your installation.
Does MPG offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. MPG can offer an annual maintenance contract and arrange ongoing support for your installation in Luxembourg. More practical answers are available in our FAQ.
