A cross-border worker in Luxembourg? Check the applicable rules
Many cross-border workers from Germany, France and Belgium work in Luxembourg. Affiliation to the Luxembourg social security system may allow an application, but actual access to benefits depends on the applicable cross-border rules and the competent authority's decision.
If you are affiliated to the CNS, first ask the CNS or AEC to confirm the procedure for your country of residence before ordering equipment.
What matters is affiliation — not residence
This is the key point, and it is often misunderstood. Luxembourg's dependency insurance does not depend on where you live, but on your affiliation to the country's social security system.
Under the European coordination rules (Regulation EC No 883/2004), specific provisions determine the competent institution and how benefits are provided in a cross-border worker's country of residence. The CNS or AEC must confirm the individual situation.
In short: affiliation may open an application route, but it does not guarantee approval of a stairlift or a specific amount.
How it works in practice
The process is the same as for a resident:
Would you like to know the price for your staircase?
The R20 medical report — your doctor fills in this official document describing the need for help. It's free for you.
The application to the CNS — the file (application form + R20) is sent to the Caisse nationale de santé.
The AEC assessment — the Administration d'évaluation et de contrôle reviews your situation and needs.
Quotes — submit the offers requested by the AEC. Its written decision specifies the authorised solution and any amount covered. The MPG quote is free.
Every cross-border situation is different. The simplest step is to contact us: we assess your case and guide you through every step with the CNS. For the full picture, see our Dependency Insurance page.
MPG speaks your language and covers the Greater Region
